Vitrines is a museum building on the island of Sahasaari, in Oulu. It is highly conceptual project which studies how to exhibit light art and how to connect the indoor museum exhibition spaces with its surroundings. The central role in its design plays light columns which are scattered around the building creating a forest-like image. Light art pieces can be placed into these light columns. The columns introduce the building for visitors and bring light into the space, especially in Oulu’s dark winter time. The light columns also allow light to enter indoor exhibition spaces through skylights.
The design progress of Vitrines included a lot of study models and precise massing.
