The task was to extend and renovate an apartment building built in the 60s in the Raksila district of Oulu. The apartment building was supposed to extend two floors upwards to provide enough new apartments in the area. Renovation and extension plans had to be executed by using energy efficient methods. I worked on this project in cooperation with a friend of mine, Aino Telama.
The apartment building extension was made by using CLT space modules and wall elements to minimize the renovation time. The aim was to make the building connect with its surroundings. We made slight changes existing floorplans and added high quality apartments with green rooms and terraces on the top floors. The apartment building was covered with extra isolated wall elements and shadowing vertical wood panels.
